Indian Tamil Vegetarian Recipes

India and Vegetarians
Vegetarian diet is a no meat diet for millions of Indians. It is a lifestyle for many castes like Brahmins, 'saiva' pillais and other distinctions within each caste system. Some even pretend to be vegetarians to be accepted or even recognized as Brahmins.

Why Vegetarian?
Being a vegetarian in India has many reasons. Some are religious, cultural (though both are clumped together most times without any distinction) nutritional, health, temporary religious fasting and financial (meat is more expensive than vegetables) Most poor people eat Indian vegetarian recipe, as meat is considered luxury for them.
Two cuisine culture
Indian vegetarian recipe collection is for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Most Hindu festivals will serve only vegetarian food, so are the weddings and parties. It is common in India to see veg as well as non-veg cuisines served in parties. The bulk of Indian food like the breakfast menu is vegetarian. Restaurants are clearly defined as vegetarian or non- vegetarian.
Types of Vegetarians
Vegetarianism is the practice of not eating meat, including beef, poultry, fish, and their by-products, with or without the use of dairy products or eggs. The exclusion may also extend to products derived from animal carcasses, such as lard, tallow, gelatin, rennet and cochineal. Some who follow the diet also choose to refrain from wearing clothing that involves the death of animals, such as leather, silk, fur and many down feathers. While most vegetarians consume dairy products, veganism is a stricter form which excludes dairy, eggs, and any foods that contain these or other animal products. Still stricter is fruitarianism, which excludes all food but the botanic fruits of plants.

History

India
Indian Vegetarian Recipe has been common in the Indian subcontinent, since possibly the 2nd millennium BC for spiritual reasons, such as ahimsa (nonviolence), to avoid indulgences (as meat was considered an indulgence), and to reduce bad karmic influences. Hinduism preaches that it is the ideal diet for spiritual progress and Jainism enjoins all its followers to be vegetarian. The first precept in the Buddhist monastic and lay ordinations, common to all Buddhist traditions, is not to take life.
This is usually understood to include animal life. Although some Buddhists do nevertheless eat meat, vegetarianism is highly regarded. A small number of Jewish and Christian sects have historically practiced vegetarianism including the Nazirites, Essenes and Ebionites (see vegetarianism and religion). veg/tamil-recipe-img-2000.jpgMany Hindu scriptures advocate a vegetarian diet. The secular literature of Tirukural in Tamil Nadu, India, written over 2000 years ago has several couplets that proclaim the virtues and goodness of a vegetarian diet. Europe
Vegetarians in Europe used to be called "Pythagoreans", after the philosopher Pythagoras, who with his followers abstained from meat in the 6th century BC. These people followed a vegetarian diet for nutritional and ethical reasons. According to the Roman poet Ovid, Pythagoras said: "As long as Man continues to be the ruthless destroyer of lower living beings he will never know health or peace. For as long as men massacre animals, they will kill each other. Indeed, he who sows the seed of murder and pain cannot reap joy and love." 1847, the first Vegetarian Society in Ramsgate, England, defined a "vegetarian" - from the Latin uegetus "lively", and suggestive of the English word "vegetable" Importance of an Indian Vegetarian Recipe is well justified.
Nutritional

Most nutritionists claim that a diet rich in fresh fruit and vegetables but low in animal fat and red meat offers numerous health benefits, including a significantly lower risk of heart disease, cancer, renal failure and stroke. The American Dietetic Association, the largest organization of nutrition professionals, states on its website "Vegetarian diets offer a number of nutritional benefits, including lower levels of saturated fat, cholesterol, and animal protein as well as higher levels of carbohydrates, fiber, magnesium, potassium, folate, and antioxidants such as vitamins C and E and phytochemicals.

Lower body mass
Vegetarians have been reported to have lower body mass indices than nonvegetarians, as well as lower rates of death from ischemic heart disease; vegetarians also show lower blood cholesterol levels; lower blood pressure; and lower rates of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and prostate and colon cancer."
